Meet Your Customized Electrical Cabinet Needs
A Simple Guide to Designing and Making Metal Electrical Cabinet Boxes
Step 1:Getting Ready for Design
1.Researching Needs
- Where it will be used: Figure out the electrical cabinet’s environment—like indoor offices, outdoor substations, or industrial workshops. Different places need different levels of protection. For example, outdoor cabinets need to stand up to wind, rain, and sand, while workshop ones might have to handle oil or shaking.
- Fitting the equipment: Know the details of the electrical gear that goes inside—size, weight, and how much heat it gives off. Big, powerful equipment, for instance, needs the casing to let heat out well; large gear needs the casing to be strong enough to hold it.
- Following rules: Learn the industry standards, like safety rules and how strong the casing must be. This makes sure the design and build meet all the required rules.
2.Gathering Info
- Looking at examples: Check out other metal electrical cabinet casings. See what works and what doesn’t to get ideas for your own design.
- Learning about materials: Find out what different metals are like—steel is strong, aluminum is light and resists rust, etc. Pick materials that fit your budget.

Step 2:The Design Step
1.Designing the Structure
- Picking the shape: Decide if the casing will stand on the floor, hang on the wall, etc. Make sure it looks good and fits where it will go.
- Building the frame: Design a frame that’s strong and steady. For big cabinets, add extra support bars or braces to hold the equipment and handle hits from the outside.
- Planning openings: Mark where to put holes for wires, vents, control panels, and doors. Add protection to these openings—vents, for example, need to let air out but keep dust out too.
2.Designing for Protection
- Choosing protection levels: Pick a protection level (like IP20, IP54) based on where the cabinet will go. Use rubber seals or waterproof edges to keep water and dust out.
- Stopping rust: If the cabinet might get exposed to chemicals, treat it with zinc coating or rust-proof paint to make it last longer.

3.Drawing Plans
- 2D drawings: Use CAD software to draw detailed 2D plans. Include all views, measurements, and how precise the parts need to be. This tells builders exactly what to do.
- 3D models: Make 3D models to see how the casing looks and fits together. This helps spot problems, fix the layout, and test how parts go together before building.
Step 3:Manufacturing Phase
1.Raw Material Procurement
- Material Selection: Purchase metal materials that meet standards, such as Mild steel, Carbon steel,Galvanized Steel,Stainless steel ,Aluminum alloy plates, or profiles, according to design requirements. Ensure that complete quality certification documents, such as material reports and inspection reports, are provided.
- Quality Inspection: Conduct quality inspections on purchased raw materials, checking whether their dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and mechanical properties meet requirements.
2.Processing and Manufacturing
- Cutting and Blanking: Use equipment such as laser cutting machines and CNC shears to cut metal sheets according to drawing requirements, obtaining the required part shapes and sizes.
- Bending and Forming: Use bending machines to bend the cut sheets into various components of the enclosure, such as side panels, door panels, and top panels. Control the bending angle and dimensional accuracy during the process.
- Welding and Assembly: Assemble the components into a complete enclosure frame using welding processes such as argon arc welding or carbon dioxide gas shielded welding. Pay attention to welding quality to avoid defects such as cold welding, missing welding, and weld spatter. After welding, perform grinding to ensure a smooth surface.
3.Surface Treatment
- Pretreatment: Perform pretreatment on the welded enclosure, including degreasing, derusting, and phosphating, to improve the adhesion of surface coatings.
- Painting: Carry out painting operations according to design requirements, such as spraying anti-rust primer, topcoat, or powder coating. Control the thickness and uniformity of the coating during painting to ensure appearance quality and protective performance.
4.Accessory Installation
- Sealing Component Installation: Install sealing strips, waterproof gaskets, and other sealing accessories to ensure the enclosure’s protection performance.
- Hardware Installation: Install hardware such as door locks, hinges, handles, and lifting rings to facilitate the use and transportation of the electrical cabinet.

Step 4:Quality Inspection Phase
1.Appearance Inspection
- Dimensional Accuracy: Check whether the enclosure’s dimensions meet drawing requirements, including deviations in length, width, height, and diagonal dimensions within allowable ranges.
- Surface Quality: Inspect the enclosure’s surface for scratches, dents, coating peeling, etc., and check whether the coating color is uniform.
2.Structural Strength Testing
- Static Load Testing: Apply a certain static load to the electrical cabinet enclosure to simulate the weight it may bear in actual use, checking for deformation, cracking, etc.
- Mechanical Impact Testing: Simulate external mechanical impacts to test the enclosure’s impact resistance, ensuring the safety of internal electrical equipment in case of accidental collisions.
3.Protection Performance Testing
- Waterproof and Dustproof Testing: Conduct waterproof and dustproof tests according to the specified protection level, such as rain tests and dust tests, to check whether the enclosure can effectively block water and dust intrusion.
- Corrosion Resistance Testing: Evaluate the corrosion resistance of the enclosure’s surface coating through methods such as salt spray tests to estimate its service life in corrosive environments.

Step 5:Packaging and Delivery Phase
1.Packaging
- Protective Packaging: Use materials such as pearl cotton and bubble wrap to protect the electrical cabinet enclosure, preventing collisions and scratches during transportation.
- Clear Labeling: Mark information such as product name, model, specification, quantity, and production date on the packaging to facilitate customer identification and acceptance.
2.Delivery
- Transportation and Distribution: Choose an appropriate transportation method, such as road transportation or railway transportation, to ensure that the electrical cabinet enclosure is delivered to the customer safely and on time.
- Acceptance and Delivery: The customer inspects the received electrical cabinet enclosure, and upon confirmation that the product meets the order requirements, completes the delivery procedures.
